President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the appointment of
Engineer Isa Joseph and Engineer Abubakar Yaro Ibrahim as the sole
administrators for the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company and National Iron
Mining Company (NIOMCO) respectively.
A statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, revealed that the
appointments were announced by the Minister of Mines and Steel
Development Architect Mohammed Musa Sada when he issued the
letters of
appointment in Abuja, yesterday.According to Sada the appointments take immediate effect.
Sada said that “Their appointments were on the basis of their
experiences and professionalism in the metals sector, and they should be
able to bring about the expected turnaround in the two facilities”
According to him, what informed the federal government decision was the
need to inject new ideas into the two facilities to make them operate
in line with the present dispensation transformation agenda on service
delivery”.
He advised the new appointees “to add value to the two companies by
making them operational, to select their management teams on the basis
of seniority, experience and competence while urging them to carry along
the labour unions in the discharge of their duties”.
While the sole administrator for Ajaokuta is an experienced
metallurgical Engineer and a top management staff of the company, who
hails from Kogi state, his counterpart is Engineer Abubakar Yaro Ibrahim
seasoned Mining Engineer from Taraba state
The handing and taking over ceremonies between the new administrators
and the former interim management committee on the two companies are
expected to be completed within the week.
