Graduate commits suicide over girlfriend

For the family and friends of a young man identified as Chijioke who lived of 98 Abel Jumbo Street, in Mile Two, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, June 24, will forever be remembered as a Black Sunday.

While the young man’s family members are wallowing in mourning, neighbours and acquaintance too are still reeling from shock over his sudden death. The question everyone is asking is: Why would a young, able-bodied graduate choose to take his own life on account of a woman?

Sachet water, popularly known as pure water, has now become scarce commodity in Abuja following a reported shut down of all water factories in the city.
Due to this development, a sachet of water now sells for N20 and above; as against the normal price of N5. A bag of sachet now sell for N180 and above in few areas that it is still available; as against N100.

NYSC:Why Lagosians Can’t Go North, Lagos House Writes DG

The Lagos State House of Assembly has written the office of the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in protest against the recent posting of prospective corps members from the southern part of the country especially Lagos, to the north.

There has been criticisms from the public since the posting started and despite this, the NYSC authorities have continued with the registration of corpers for Batch C and have gone ahead to fix the deadline for registration at 12 midnight today.

Dana crash: Families affected gets $30,000 each


More than 1 month after a Dana aircraft crashed at Iju-Ishaga in Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area of Lagos State, the airline’s management confirmed, yesterday, that nine people, who are next of kin to some of the crash victims, have received their interim benefits.

The airline is mandated to pay 30 percent benefits of the $100,000 insurance cover to victims’ next of kin within 30 days of crash.

Head of Corporate Communication for Dana, Mr. Tony Usidamen, yesterday, told Vanguard on phone: “As of July 2, the airline had received completed insurance forms for 64 of the victims, four of which are our staff members.
“We are aware that most of the next of kin or legal representatives, who submitted documents, are yet to visit the Crisis Management Centre, CMC, and submit documentations to us. Nine claimants have received interim benefits.”

Robbers killed 2 persons

UMUAHIA – TWO persons have been confirmed dead following a robbery attack on a popular pharmaceutical shop located along Lagos Street of Umuahia metropolis, in the Abia State capital.

The robbers were said to have attacked the shop, usually filled with customers, at about 8-9 pm. Although details of the attack were still sketchy, the state Police command confirmed the death of two persons.

Security beefed up at Gombe NYSC orientation camp

Mallamsidi (Gombe State) – Security has been beefed up at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp in Gombe, as some of the more than 2,050 Batch `B’ corps members begin to report in camp.

Mr Manesah Igyuse, the Gombe State Coordinator of the NYSC, disclosed this on Monday in an interview in Mallamsidi, headquarters of the Kwami Local Government area.

He said the state government was doing everything possible to ensure that those posted to the state for the orientation exercise, were secured.
